Quand doit-on utiliser “if” et quand doit-on utiliser “whether” ?

If et whether introduisent une alternative (oui/non), mais whether est plus formel et plus “grammatical” dans certains cadres. Par exemple : I don’t know whether he’ll come. Whether s’emploie souvent avec “or not” (whether… or not) et après certaines prépositions (concerned about whether…). If est très courant à l’oral, mais moins naturel dans ces structures.
